It takes a village to raise a teen, but it only takes one volunteer to make a difference

Key Message for Parents:

We are apt to forget that children watch examples better than they listen to preaching.

I once saw a homeless man with a sign saying please help me buy food I AM HOMELESS. I thought to my self why is it I seen this gentleman leave his home one day he shares with his girlfriend. And why is it he walks with a limp when at his favorite spot begging for money but in the neighborhood he walks fast and normally?

I again saw a man with a sign saying I want to buy beer first then food, please help! Again I was perplexed but intrigued with his honesty, so I gave him ten bucks.

At North-Side we want to take that honesty route and tell you that we will use your money to aid others. That’s it, nothing more and nothing less! We don’t see the cash until it is registered with the www.gkccf.org, every donation is tax deductible.

Thank You for your support!

I have met more people who said they were just couch potatoes before they volunteered no exercise, no life. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and get you dose of daily exercise. Volunteer it's a social way of life

 Step1

Perform an online search. Most non-profits are on the Internet with interactive sites created to engage potential volunteers. Organizational sites like VolunteerMatch allow potential volunteers to search for specific types of volunteer work in specific areas.

Step2

Evaluate the non-profit. After a selection is made, it is time to do some research on the agency. Sites like GuideStar offer financial records for agencies, as well as articles that show the work of organizations that are doing the right thing . It is crucial to get the facts on any group.
Step3
Showcase specific strengths. Organizations are always looking for a wide variety of skills. It is not necessary to be a professional in the skill being sought. It is necessary, however, to be able to show a level of expertise in a specific skill.
Step4
Be open to trying new things. Often, an Executive Director will see something in a potential volunteer that they may not see in themselves. Agencies often take an original approach to lots of issues. If that approach involves a non-traditional use of skills, remain open to that. This type of work is often just as helpful to the volunteer as it is to the agency
